If you want to summon in Hidden ATK or Hidden DEF Position an Integration Summon you are not forced to reveal the eroded material card right away, but when you erode it you must set it clearly apart from other cards, and once your monster is revealed or the duel ends you must reveal that the eroded card was the proper material, otherwise you lose the duel instead

It can be helpful when fighting your opponent

Enchantments are harder to remove than creatures, and the bouncing cost could be used as a positive to save the enchantment if an opponent tried to destroy it

While this does suck for people who have spent a lot on cards that are now plummeting in value, my hope is that this also serves to lower the price of cards in general
